Todd and Jaxy’s story begins not with fireworks, but with a spark — the kind that catches quietly, steadily, and glows brighter with time. They met in a way that felt serendipitous, as though the universe had always meant for their paths to cross. It wasn’t long before their shared love for nature, deep conversations, and laughter stitched them together like two halves of the same soul.
Todd, calm and grounded, brought steadiness to Jaxy’s wild, creative spirit. Jaxy, full of fire and vision, brought color and spontaneity to Todd’s world. They were different, yet completely in sync — the kind of love that felt like home and adventure all at once.
Their days were filled with hikes through the Kananaskis wilderness, slow mornings with coffee and quiet smiles, and late-night talks under starlit skies. Together, they built not only a relationship but a dream — one that took shape in the beauty of River Retreat Kananaskis, a space they would later share with others seeking connection and peace.
As their love deepened, so did their bond. Proposals weren’t grand or over-the-top. Instead, one evening, wrapped in a blanket on the riverbank, Todd looked at Jaxy and simply said, “Let’s do forever.” And that was enough. She said yes with tears in her eyes and joy in her heart. Their wedding was nothing short of magical.
The Wedding
Set against the backdrop of the Highwood River and the Canadian Rockies, Todd and Jaxy’s wedding was a reflection of everything they valued — intimacy, beauty, authenticity, and nature.
Guests were greeted by the fresh scent of pine and the sound of the river softly flowing nearby. Wildflowers adorned the ceremony space, and a handmade arch framed the couple as they exchanged their vows. Todd wore blue jeans and his favourite shirt, earthy and elegant. Jaxy looked radiant in a flowing blue dress that danced in the mountain breeze, her bare feet grounded in the place they both loved.
Their vows weren’t traditional — they were raw and real. They spoke of building a life rooted in respect, kindness, and laughter. They promised to nurture their dreams together, to grow through the hard moments, and to never lose sight of the simple joys.
After the ceremony, guests gathered under an open tent strung with fairy lights. Long wooden tables were set with wild greenery, vintage dishes, and heartfelt details. There was laughter, music, and food made with love. And when the stars came out, Todd and Jaxy had their first dance on a wooden platform, surrounded by friends, family, and the glow of firelight.
It wasn’t just a wedding — it was a celebration of soulmates who had found each other in a big, wild world.

While our lodge is a pet-free space, you’re always welcome to visit with our furry and feathered family!

We also share the property with seven curious and cuddly cats who love making new friends. And don’t forget our 22 friendly chickens—they’re quite the characters and always happy to cluck a greeting!
