The Path Less Taken is a Foothills-based guiding business that seeks to connect you to the local Kananaskis landscape through hiking experiences. Owner/Operator Leith Monaghan is an ACMG Hiking Guide, Professional Interpreter, and a Foothills local. She loves sharing her passion for the natural world and the Kananaskis landscape with others. Location: River Retreat Kananaskis sits along the Highwood, a beautiful river that flows downwards from its headwaters in the nearby Highwood Range. The Highwood is a small part of the provincially protected gem known as Kananaskis Country. This area also claims the title of the highest paved highway in Canada, climbing to 2,217 metres. Breathtaking views, stellar scenery, and trails for all abilities makes this park of Kananaskis country an outdoor enthusiast’s playground. The Path Less Taken has 6 locations for hikers to explore in the Highwood area, along with trail options in other parts of Kananaskis. Click HERE to see guided trail options.
Availability: Weekends and Holidays June 15th to December 1st. Dependent on availability of guide and seasonal mountain conditions.
Add-Ons: Path Less Taken guests can add a Charcuterie Box from the Market in Black Diamond for an on-trail snack. Or to satiate your post-hike appetite, a “locals” discount at the Eau Claire Distillery in Black Diamond can be arranged.
River Retreat Pricing:
- Full Day Trip (+4 Hour): $335 + GST for 1-2 People
- Half Day Trip (>4 Hours): $234 + GST for 1-2 People
- Each Additional Adult: $55 + GST
